Hooray! I get to blog today!!!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Notice my “Christmas” header? That’s how long I’ve been gone I think. I miss ‘da blog’ and I’m starting to feel like a guest around here … IN MY OWN BLOG (LOL) but the hubby has been so nice enough to pitch in for me while I finished all the deadlines that were swamping me. I just finished two projects last night, one of them I’m so excited about. Actually, both and more. Woohoo! (Warning: long post -> because I missed blogging so much :P )

First off, The TDS 2008 Catalog!!! The Daily Scrapper is the brainchild of designer Alice Koh and it’s the first online scrapbooking newspaper ever. I love working with this publication because I’ve always wanted to be a journalist/writer at heart so this satisfies that inner ‘artsy craving’ in me. So one of the TDS projects this year is the first year-end ‘The Daily Scrapper (TDS) 2008 Catalog Ezine’ to be released anytime now depending on which time zone you are in. I’m so happy to be part of the making of this catalog. It’s really a unique way to showcase some of the wonderful talent of digiscrappers out there. AS IN! Special mention goes to all those wonderful ladies who worked hard behind the scenes on this project like Karen Maggie (our project coordinator), Joanne Hubbard (awesome layout artist!), Amysout, Melrio & Ruth Melody (all template geniuses), JJstar (one Hybrid Hot Mama) and of course awesome editor-in-chief Alice Koh (who works 25 hours and more each day). I hope I didn’t miss out on anyone.

And guess what? there are two ‘bebots’ featured there! (Of course, I’m so proud of them and because all these bebots have some really serious talent. Go bebots!)  I think I have to keep track of how many exclamation points I have in this post hahaha.  Congrats to Buge and Len Escobar for being featured in it. You girls rock!  Here’s a teaser of the catalog and what’s in store for you.

If you enjoy reading the TDS newspaper, you’ll love going through this one of a kind E-zine. And there’s more -> lots of freebies are included in it like kits contributed by designers Amy Sumrall, Irene Alexeeva, and Jenn Balding and templates by the TDS Layout Artist Team.

Soon to hit the stands! Check it out at the TDS Store.

So what else have I been doing? Well, I just completed a four-week basic photography course sponsored by Isuzu Philippines at the Alabang branch taught by photojournalist Antonni Cuesta. I am so happy with what I’ve learned through this course because now I have a little technique to back up the artsy side of my “shots”. Thanks, teacher Toni! I learned a lot. Maybe I’ll have time to be active in Litratong Pinoy again and use all this technical know how. Although the classes have ended, they have a contest ongoing for those who attended the course. All our entries will be on display bet Dec. 8 onwards in the following Isuzu showrooms – Alabang, Pasig and Cavite and will be subject to voting by the public. So in case you drop by one of these showrooms or you are window shopping for a new car this holiday season – Check out my entries and vote for me (pretty please? -> betty boop eyes)

What else did I do? I attended my first local make and take ‘paper’ scrapping event. Yes, Virginia … this girl still plays with paper, glue and scissors. I got to go to Merry Jane Lim’s store – Rekindled Moments near PCU Taft and went ‘paper scrapping’ shopping. I got to pick up a few inking techniques too from a demo done by Cookie Aguilar. Thanks Jane and Cookie! Now to find the time to do all that as well.

In the middle of all that, the hubby and I attended the Kumon Parent Conference held at the Intercontinental Hotel a few Saturdays ago. I was quite pleasantly surprised that the guys at the registration table were smiling not at me or the hubby but at our son. Guess what? It turns out that my son was their featured poster boy so he was kinda like a celebrity on his own with all these Kumon teachers so happy to see him in person. Even Kumon Philippines President Nakamura was quite amused.

Here are some pics:

Up close and personal

Really up close and personal :) ( FYI, he’s homeschooled)

Of course, not to mention, the annual Kumon National Advanced Students Honor Roll (ASHR) where for the first time in his whole Kumon awards life I didn’t get to attend because dd was sick and we both had to stay home, plus the ASHR Christmas Party at our Kumon Center in LBA where both my kids brought home their medals.

this time dd got to attend and with medals to boot, yipee!

Is there more you say?  That’s what happens when you don’t get to blog hahaha. Well, the hubby and I have a couple of projects up our sleeves but they are still incubating so when it’s ready to hatch, you’ll find out about it right here.

Okay, that’s quite an update. I’ve said a whole mouthful. Check back once in a while, I think I have a freebie up in the air as a Christmas present for y’all. Now back to you, ‘ga!

Ciao for now!

I got pubbed!!!

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

in Creating Keepsakes Magazine!!!  After around six months of holding my tongue and after a couple of weeks into October and doubting whether it was really going to happen or not, I found out today in the Scrapbooks Exchange Forum/PS Forum that the ladies there spotted my layout in the October 2008 CK Issue. Woohoo! Actually, they are more fortunate than I, because I have not seen the mag for myself. I don’t really know how it looks like. boohoo  I’m supposed to get a copy from them but it hasn’t arrived yet, probably stuck in the P.O. aargh!

The layout I submitted was a really simple one, (digi of course) and it is one of my fave layouts because it was just one of those fluke things I did by accident and somehow it worked. I didn’t really submit it for publication. I just uploaded it to my online CK gallery and just left it there with no expectations at all. I don’t regularly do this but I just wanted to fill up my gallery there. Later on, CK emailed me and asked if the layout was available for publication. I couldn’t believe it. I thought I was dreaming up to the day I submitted all the required documents. It was surreal! I still haven’t seen it to this day and hopefully somebody posts a pic of it. lol

I started scrapping almost 10 years ago and from day one I was just like the rest of the scrapping world, I wanted to get published. Somehow along the way, this desire died and I just went back to my basics and scrapped for my family and for my own pleasure. I did get close to being pubbed in CK years later for a layout I did and posted at CK’s online gallery and it got picked as Page of the Day (POTD). This was last year. It was a bitter sweet experience because it was the first time I had ever posted a layout online at CK and being picked as POTD didn’t sit well with some. So I withdrew from the site for almost a year and just started posting again this year this particular layout included.

It’s my first time ever in a print publication. It finally happened when I didn’t expect it anymore.
Hopefully, it’s not just a one-time hit. And for those of you who have dreamed of it, God keeps note of those little things you have given up on. Like a little girl, I probably had to let go so that He could be the one to give it to me. So for those who desire to get pubbed, don’t lose heart, it could be your turn next time.

Here’s a pic taken by fellow scrapper Craftski (Joan S.) of the layout as seen in the magazine. I haven’t seen it yet actually so I’m so thankful she posted this for me to see. Thanks, girl!

Lookie here:

Here’s the layout:

Of course, I had to use my real name for tax & documentation purposes so you won’t find it under the name ‘teys’. Think you can spot it? Let me know if you do. :D

Btw, if you are subscribed to the Memory Makers Page Inspirations Newsletter, you might find a layout of mine somewhere in the 9/20 newsletter.

Happy Scrapping Everyone!

p.s.
thanks to the hubby for pitching in for me last post… had to pull him away from his books and ubuntu stuff just to post for me… hopefully my PC will be hiccup free soon.

Ciao!

Windows XP SP3 woes

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

What an ordeal it has been. When it rains it really pours, I guess. I had set my PC on Windows auto update and got this reminder that it was downloading the SP3 update. Of course, I thought it was just like those usual updates until a few minutes later. It had finished installing the update and  just like a little girl scout, I followed the prompt to restart. At first, I kinda noticed that it wasn’t booting properly so I restarted several times until it finally got through. Then things started slowing down. After a few minutes I got another notice that it had downloaded a subsequent update and had to restart again. So I clicked that little button that said “restart now” and BAM! On the restart, the screen just went blank and wouldn’t budge from there. Talk about major bummer! I had just installed a trial version of Trend Micro and was trying to find out if I had a nasty little virus that wouldn’t go away and it all went kaput! I don’t mind losing everything else except for family pictures and scrapbook layouts. The rest can all hang for all I care but to for it to happen all over again is not funny at all.  Good thing hubby just finished a certification course on CPR as my stress level had hit the roof that would not even register on a pulse oximeter. Well, just in case, waaah!

Imagine if you only had one computer at home and no way of knowing how to troubleshoot your PC or not even having a back up system for all your data files. Que horror! Good thing that I had backed up all that mattered –  a painful lesson I learned one laptop ago that cost me my kids’ pics when they were still young. Having been down that road before, the hubby and I just decided to reinstall the OS again. I am not a true blue computer geek as this is not what I was trained for but I have been forced to be one out of necessity. Crash course, literally.

Lesson learned, turn off automatic updates and manually check each update before you decide to install it. Next, always back up your files on an EHD or burn it or save immediately onto a disc. Better “saved”  than sorry.

But every cloud has a silver lining and although this has been one major extended headache that’s been going on for a few days now, I discovered a neat little store that has become my favorite already. Hubby brought me to HMR Envirocycle Surplus shop here in Sta. Rosa and it had all these “garage” sale finds like laptops, desktops, tech gadgets etc. where we were able to buy an LCD Monitor and a 40gig laptop at half the price of what it costs in the regular store. Plus of all things to find, I found a Raspberry Polka Dot AMM Tote-ally Cool Tote with matching Mini-Tote sitting all lonely by itself waiting to be brought home and loved by me! lol Almost $40.00 worth altogether that I got for just P900 pesos. How cool is that?  Who says shopping isn’t therapeutic? huh?

So, if you guys were wondering where I’ve been, that’s the story. Now I have to go back to tweaking my PC and I’ll catch you all later. Let’s all have a great week, y’all!

Ciao!

Memory Makers Idea Gallery toot!

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I’ve been offline most of the day today, cleaning up the old desktop, scanning and defragging cause I think I got infected with something from hubby’s usb. grrr! Anyway, I just checked MM’s Idea Gallery and this just made my day. sigh! Another LO featured in the gallery! Different layouts are featured every day at Memory Makers and seeing this one at this time after stressing over the ‘puter is a sight for (literally) sore eyes. So here’s a snapshot of the layout as seen in MM :

and here’s a link to see it up close:

http://memorymakersmagazine.com/page_idea.aspx?id=19825

I think I’m going take a break from the computer to watch something else. I’m tired watching the defrag screen so maybe I’ll watch a bit of the Olympics. I wonder when the equestrienne competition will be shown? Actually, I just love the equestrian clothing part. Reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet. So I’ll check in later while you check out my layout. :D

Ciao!

Paper, Digi and Hybrid

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I started out as a traditional or paper scrapbooker years ago until I switched to digiscrapping when the kids came along. It was difficult to do paper scrapping while the kids  were still toddling around because we have a tiny house and the chances that I would find them swimming in a pile full of scrapping what-nots and tools was 100%. I usually scrapped on the sofa or on the bed and it was a bit tiring to put them away everytime someone wants to use it. Now that they are a little older I think I can finally catch up on my years of scrapping backlog. I know I won’t stop digiscrapping because it’s so much easier but I think I’m leaning on trying to do a bit of hybrid so I won’t waste all the stuff I accumulated years before. I’ve ordered a few tools already and I’m just waiting for them to arrive. I’ve seen a lot of tutorials on personalized pens, journals, minibooks, etc. I can’t wait to try them. I think I can even get the kids to do it as their art project as well.  I think I wouldn’t mind them swimming through my stuff this time. LOL

Another Toot!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Yey!  Just wanted to share another toot for this layout I made. I joined TaylorMade’s Designer Spotlight Challenge and was one of those who won one of the main prizes. You can read about it in Amanda’s blog right here –> TaylorMade Designs

Here’s what I did for that challenge :

Tooot!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Yey! Just want to share a little toot today. It’s like a much needed shot in the arm ’cause ds was confined in the hospital for possible viral gastro and I am a little bit off tangent because of it. But God is good because sudden rainshowers always have rainbows somehow. This is my little rainbow for today.

Katie Hilbert of Memory Makers Magazine sent me an email a while back asking if she could feature my LO in the Idea Gallery. Of course, li’l ole me won’t say no, right? If you’d like to check it out click here to take you to Memory Makers online mag and check out my LO. Would like to know what you think too.

Psst, by the way. I have another little surprise (not sooo little to me) coming out in October 2008. If any of you can guess what it is, I just might give you a little surprise as well. So check back here often to find out what it is.  Later y’all. Have to go to the hospital in a bit. Say a little prayer for my ds too, will ya? Thanks!
