Micro SD

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I’d like to say thanks to Kate Hadfield who dropped by my blog and brought to my attention that my comments section was not working. I recently updated my wordpress version and doing so necessitates one deactivating ALL wordpress plugins and reactivating after the upgrade. I think I made a mistake reactivating one comment plugin that made the site a little wonky. I fixed it up and hopefully all’s well with my site.

On to other things, I was chatting with my niece the other day (actually, graveyard time) and she wanted my opinion regarding a few cell phone models she was looking at. I liked one in particular because of the high memory capacity (it included a micro sd external memory aside from the phone memory) and it also had a usb slot which can be quite helpful when downloading stuff on your phone. I don’t know if she has decided already but hopefully she will find a unit that matchers her needs.

Another thing that I did was update my odesk account and I took a couple of tests as well. Thankfully, I was happy with the results. Check out my little badges below. Pretty neat, huh?  I haven’t gotten any jobs over there yet but hopefully I will in the near future.

Be back for more in a bit!

Battle of the Texters – American Idol S8 Finale

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

It’s finally done! The songs have been sung, the judges have said their pieces, and now,  it’s up to the texters to decide who they want as the next American Idol. Come to think of it, in the end, it’s really not about the Idol contestants. The bottom line is it’s all about the TEXTER! Who cares if Kris or Glambert sang the song well or either one of them displayed great artistry. People will vote for the ones they like and they will text like crazy to make their voices heard even if they overload the phone company’s cell tower just to get their votes through. So much power literally in one’s hand, eh? We’re all at the edge of our seats wondering who’s it gonna be. Who won the The Battle of the Texters? Well, in a few hours or so we’ll find out soon enough. As for me, well my vote doesn’t count – I’m out of coverage area. hahaha I wonder what would happen if they allowed internet voting and the whole world could vote online… hmmm interesting, don’t you think? LOL

Hectic Days

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The part few days have been hectic for us.  Tes is working on a layouting project.  I’ve been teaching ballet while working on my applications to teach physics in universities.   To complicate things, my mother and sister-in-law are on vacation from overseas.  One has to struggle just to meet this balancing act.  Pay insurance online.  Stock-up on cooked food.   Re-schedule some activities.Write down appointments.  The important thing is to have a frequent assessment of the importance, urgency and economics of every effort.  At the end of the day, we have to question ourselves, “Did we accomplish something towards our longterm goals?”

New Phone

Monday, March 16th, 2009

In the past few days, we have been considering getting new phones.  We intend to get the services of Sun cellular on a prepaid basis.  One of the strategies we considered was to get a new phone under our existing SMART plan and use the old phone for sun.  We  already requested for our free Nokia 6120 and are just awaiting for its arrival.  We would have chosen an N77 for free but we couldn’t find any use of the required myTV subscription.  Anyway, the 6120 seems to meet our needs.  This 3G phone appears to have the reliable basics with expandable memory.  We might buy a 4gb micro sd though the phone can expand up to 8gb.  We are looking forward to getting this phone.

New computer?

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Tes has been harping about buying a new computer for the last few days.  As usual, I asked the typical questions. Why do you want to buy a new one? etc.  It seems that she wants to have a good laptop computer that can support her graphic design needs.  It has to have a good software bundle and good system memory to support photo editing and layouts. Using her current PC, it would take quite a while for one of her files to open not mention that it hangs when a lot of pictures are opened. The laptop would also give her the mobility to work with clients in the field.

A friend is helping us source out a laptop (a Mac). Hopefully she comes back with news of a good deal.

Ride of the future

I recently came across you tube videos of a guy in New Zealand who converted a mitsubishi tredia into an EV.  It was quite an experience.  1st he had to remove the engine and the fuel system.  Then he installed a special electric motor together with its control units. He then mounted the batteries and the charging system.  After 8 months of work, it all paid off.  He began driving a cool car without worrying for Ferrari parts.  The video showed him running at about 40kph with a very silent motor.  You could hear his wife say it sounded like a spaceship when he would slow down or start the car.

WOW! This is definitely one thing on my to do list.  I think I’ll convert a VW beetle for Tes.

Camo fashion

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Last time we were in the US, I found a really cool pair of cargo pants in one of the racks of a discount store. Little did I know that they were really designed for those in uniform until I checked out the label when I got home. I had once watched a show, I don’t remember the exact details but it talked about the technology that went into manufacturing clothes especially for those in uniform like military personnel or law enforcement officers. One of the guys featured there said that he never needed to change his socks no matter how many times he wore them. The technoIogy behind it was the use of copper as part of the material. Copper has this antibacterial properties that fights odor causing bacteria. No more smelly feet, hun! And it’s not just on socks the whole uniform! Imagine that, no more smelly sweaty clothes no matter how long you are out on duty.

Of course these clothes have to be practical and they have to be designed for specific purposes. I found this really cool site that sells these pants that are not only durable and built to last, they are quite stylish as well and can be given as gifts for the man of the house especially this holiday season. I’m not quite sure if they use this kind of technology but if you are in a stump and don’t know what to give the hubby check out Tacticalpantsusa.com for some unique one of a kind gifts to give this Christmas. I’m sure he will not send it back for a refund. LOL

Gifts for Christmas

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This coming season, everyone frantically goes about shopping for gifts. The beneficiaries would be the usual “suspects” of parents, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, friends and godchildren.  That’s life  the Philippines, where you get the true meaning of “extended” family.  Considering the number of  people in our gift list, what should we consider in purchasing our gifts?  Two things we should give them: 1.) Memories or 2.) Utility.

Deciding which one to give comes with how you know the person you intend to give to. Memory gifts are items that will given them an experience they will remember for years to come. A toy, a trip to Manila Ocean park are good examples of these. Ideally, these should build a person up and prepare him/her to fulfill her purpose in life. When I gave my son a robot arm kit for this birthday, it was an experience he could never forget.  It also builds on his desire to build and create things.

Utility gifts are items you give to fulfill a need such as a wheel chair, money to pay off debt , rice, clothes ,etc.  If the gift is for a poor relative, a friend who is in personal loss, or someone sick,  utility gifts are the best items to give.

It really boils down to what the intent of your giving is?  Is it about meeting obligations or really loving the person and wanting him/her experience God’s love in practical ways.  The guide would be the giving of His Son to save all of us.  Ask yourself, “What will be the impact of my gift in the person’s 10 years from now?” That should be the acid test of your giving.

The Quick Life

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

In this day & age, gone are the days of long processes.  The new generation has, at its fingertips, remote controls, instant drinks, ATM cards, and microwave dinners.  Senior citizens are not spared.  Espresso machines are on hand for instant coffee, in sophisticated array.  I used to think this was destructive to the emotional fibre of humans today, because we, somehow, lose the intrinsic value of churning things the good, old-fashioned way.  Happily, there are more benefits than disadvantages.  We are witnessing today, a happy blend of what the old has to offer, with the speed and technology of the new.  Amidst a highly-technological society, there is room to preserve the old, and build upon it, using the new.  It is, in truth, a win-win situation.  We are the better for it.
