Rean here…

Last night, I helped my son set up his materials for his presentation this afternoon.  He presented on a topic of interest, namely : “desalination”.  It was impressive that he pretty much dictated to me the content of the presentation.  I just had to recommend best practices I new in presentation.  The software we used was a web app called Prezi.  It’s a flash based tool that allows frames to be spun around the screen.  The general concept is to lay down specific items on a work surface while the user defines that path the presentation takes along the surface. It’s a radical way of presenting as opposed to the “slide” or “foil” paradigm.  You can use it to discuss a variety of topics such as tropical rainforests, quantum mechanics or  the duncan mosquito.  It’s exciting to engage your audience with powerful Prezis.

Today my son completed his public speaking/presentation skills training.  I was pretty impressed having learned that he chose his own topic and developed his own speech.  His topic was desalination.  Initially I thought that the teacher suggested the topic to him.  It was a pleasant surprise to know that he came up with this subject as he was requested to narrow down his subject chosen category, ” Scientific Processes for Water”.  After concluding his presentation, he and his co-participants were  awarded certificates, one more of those house plaques to display, shouting:  ” I’m proud of you Son!”

In the past few days we’ve been dreaming about what our Ballet school would be.  We dream of having our own building with our studio on one floor and our home in another. The studio will have the best dance floors in this part of the country.  There may be a section for visiting teachers or students where you have something like twin over full bunk bed for boys and girls in one room.  God is indeed able to bless us with this!

Our 12 year old son has been taking has been taking piano lessons since January this year under Prof. Perla D. Suaco of the UST Conservatory of Music. I am pleased that in a span of 4 months, he completed the Aaron Grade 1 book and he now works with the Czerny 299 and the Hanon books.  In a couple of weeks, he will be working on Bach.  I am just thankful for this.

Our 9 year old daughter is also beginning to demonstrate musically although we still have to determine which instrument she likes. At times she wants the violin, sometimes the flute and at times the guitar.  Buying a guitar would probably be good because she could share this instrument with her mom.  I’m reading that Charvel guitars have great acoustic sound and are quite rare.  Thinking that one day, I get one for for them so they can enjoy playing beautiful music together.

This afternoon I got the privilege of teaching the Victory Muntinlupa Dance Ministry.  I was pleased to find 7 dancers with lots of heart.  I started the class with a talk about the role of Dance in the restoration of the Tabernacle of David. After this, I asked them to lie down on the floor.  There was some hesitation because of some dirt ( perhaps they didn’t realize they weren’t wearing nurses uniforms=)).  After a little clean up, we did a Classical floor barre.  This was then followed by Pilates inspired ab and back exercises then by Classical port de bras.  I then taught them a post-modern combination starting from a lying X-position ending in a 3 turn chaines. A lot of them had difficulty with the turns so I used most of the afternoon working on turns.  The class ended with battements and simple runs.  It was exciting to teach these kids how to dance considering that I started dancing because of ministry.

Today, I realized that my Ballet students really need to use weight as some of them had a hard time reaching their legs because of the fat in the way.  The physical demands of Ballet are high as you do all the jumps and turns following the Russian Vaganova technique.  While the regimen itself will cause fat burning, these needs to be complemented by a healthy diet.  No need to worry about Mulberry Zuccarin side effects.  Just eat the right quality and quantity of food.

Today I was working on the flooring of my Ballet studio.  I had to chisel boards to install hidden catches for my semi-permanent floors.  I was quite difficult to work with a blunt chisel.  Made me want to seek out a blade sharpening service.  Fortunately, I had a spare chisel which was sharp and enabled me to do my work.  Sometimes we go through life using blunt tools, we ought to take time off and sharpen our chisel.  I guess that is the principle of the Sabbath.

Today a dear friend is having her birthday.  To honor her, my wife spent some time with her overnight.  Instead of worrying about friend gifts delivered overnight, my wife worked with her on a pottery project.  On her return, my wife told me about the amazing things she learned in her pottery experience. A key thing was that a bubble had to be eliminated of else it would cause the piece to crack in the oven.  Made me wonder what bubbles are there in my life that must be taken out so I would not crack in the fire.

I recently purchased a Coby Kyros MID7012- 4G.  The main intent was to have a device I can use as a music player in my ballet classes.  Upon using it, I was surprised to learn that it did not have Android Market.  I was looking forward to the pay per install features of the Market.  What’s worse, I learned that my tab was not compatible with the Market.  Good thing I was able to find a way to get it done but it was not that easy to find.  Kinda disappointed as I had the impression that Android was open source. Why would anyone want to keep its app store proprietary?
