Healthy Eating

Health and fitness seem to be a constant preoccupation of a significant part of this generation.  We see fitness videos, diet trends and or the latest appetite suppressant all over.  Are these all necessary?   The problem is that we have acquired the fastfood mentality of the west.  What ever happened to the food pyramid? We have forgotten tried and tested ways of eating.

Our hectic lifestyle always led to us to the nearest McDonalds for a quick meal.  Our home meals would be rice and meat.  As a result our kids would be rather sickly. They would easily catch colds, etc.   After a recent episode of Pneumonia they had,  I decided to actively pursue their wellness.  I started going to the market, and made sure that every meal had the pyramid. Every meal had to have fruits and vegetables.  To make it more palatable, I would prepare sweet dishes.

I now consider my kids healthy considering the nutrition they get from fresh fruits and vegetables.  They seem to be more vibrant than before. Some may disagree because they look lean and thin.  Its likely because our society is used to chubbiness as an indicator of health when our ancestors were lead because of  the natural bounty they consumed.  Why do we need to buy supplements and diet pills when its easier to go back to healthy eating?
