Dial up or broadband?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Well, for me it’s not your usual broadband because we have cable internet! We started out with the dial-up but of course, that was sooooo slow. Later on, we subscribed to this not-so-Smart wifi package but ended up disconnected most of the time. Then our cable TV provider offered a cable internet package which is so far the best deal that we’ve ever had. I don’t know what fiber cable of sorts they use, but so far, going online has never been a problem for us. It’s fast and furious and customer service is great. This is one happy web surfer chick, I’ll say. :)

Sleep deprived…

Friday, April 18th, 2008

… and it’s not from blogging. LOL  It’s because of our ratty, 8-year old mattress. I’ve been bugging hubby for the last two years that I wanted to throw away that mattress forever because I always wake up in the morning feeling more tired than rested. My lower back is always painful and my shoulder blades feel sore in the morning. I feel like an old lady!  We actually did an experiment a couple of days ago to prove my point. After waking up achy all over the other day, I told him that I was going to sleep in my dad’s bed to see if it was actually the foam mattress that was the problem or it was just me. So I did. Guess what, I woke up rested and not grumpy at all. I am so convinced that if we do buy a new bed  and a luxurious mattress (someday?) I’m going to invest on a really good one, the kind that you find in fancy hotels with the Egyptian cotton sheets and those whatever-pedic kind of pillows that cradle your head so that your spine is aligned or something.  That would be totally dreamy…. (sigh).

Speaking of dress tech…

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

… I’m going to be practicing my photography skills on the dancers and I so wish I could bring my PC with me so I can see the results immediately. I took some pics of my kids at the SM Science Discovery Center last week and they looked fine in the viewfinder until I downloaded them to my computer. There were some nice shots but some that looked fine turned out blurry. I don’t want that to happen since most of the shots I want to take will be motion shots. Having one of those multimedia, mega mega gig HD/RAM laptop computers, with tablet functionalities and built in everything and of course a long battery life is definitely a must for me for these on the go stints. I do hope I can get one before the year ends.

One week from today…

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

… it’ll be ballet night, woohoo! We’ll be at the CCP Main Theatre watching my ballet teacher friend who is staging this year’s recital. I’m so excited about this year’s theme because it has been one of our dreams to stage “Esther” and it’s finally happening. Yes, it is based on the biblical character “Esther” and this one has been two years in incubation. I’ll have a chance to be at the dress tech (to practice my shots LOL) and bring the family along on GALA Night. Speaking of Gala Night, I still have no idea what to wear and my clothes have become a little bit snug (hmmm, must be the chocolate raisins I secretly munch on) waahh! Next to those dancers, I’m humongous. I don’t think even the best diet pills that work can save me in time :) LOL. I need another dose of those Ambush Makeover shows really quick. Mmmm, maybe I’ll just dress like I’m part of the backstage crew (they’re all in black) and blend with the shadows….

Keep your credit credible

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Did you know that the word credit come from the Latin word “credere” which means to believe in? From this, we also get related words like credible or credo. In business and finance, it is extremely important to be credible and trustworthy. Otherwise, nobody will want to do business with you.

When somebody applies for a credit card and is approved by the issuing credit card company, the latter is saying something like this – the person holding this card is someone we believe in and this card is proof of our trust in him and any business transaction that he undertakes. Same thing goes with credit loans.

Many people do not realize it but a simple thing such as a one-day late payment can have a big impact on their credit standing. I believe this is especially true in the US where they are able to keep track of Bad Credit Loans and Bad Credit Credit Cards. Once someone’s payment is delayed, their interest rates jump up to a higher bracket and their original debt becomes compounded. This is one of the ways credit card companies make their money – they get it from the interest and surcharges earned from your late payments.

So do yourself a favor, PAY ON TIME! That way, it keeps your debt in control and your credit credible.

I remember when…

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

… we used to live in Ocotillo Springs in Chandler, AZ approximately around this time almost 9 years ago. I was browsing through some our old photos and came across one of my favorite pictures of my son taken near the pond inside Ocotillo Springs. I think he was one year old at that time… (sigh)

We were relocated there for almost a year because of my husband’s job at that time. It is one of the most memorable times we have as a family because we were just starting out then. We were fortunate that the company my husband worked for shouldered all our expenses and we didn’t have to worry about our rent, the utilities, home insurance, transportation, food etc. I remember hubby and I couldn’t wait for the weekend because we would plan our ‘long drive’ across the states. I wish we could go back and do it all over again… drive all the way to the Grand Canyon and find that little diner along Route 66 that had these humongous pancakes bigger than my face. Unforgettable! I would love to bring my kids there to see that… perhaps someday we will…

Lights Out! – Earth Hour 2008

Friday, April 11th, 2008

… 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 … ZERO!  LIGHTS OUT!

My husband, who is part of WWF-Philippines was the one responsible for coordinating the switching off of the street lights in Roxas Blvd., Manila. He brought my eldest son Kai along with him to the first observance of Earth Hour 2008 in the Philippines. It was amazing for them to see how 99% of the establishments along Roxas Blvd turned off their light in succession, sort of like a domino effect plunging the strip into symbolic darkness for one hour… definitely a hair-raising awesome sight to see!

A lot of corporations, establishments in Pasay, Manila, Makati and Paranaque and even media networks participated in the countdown to 8pm (pretty much like the New Year countdown). I know that there were others especially in the provinces who would have wanted to join but were unable to do so. Maybe, next year the whole nation will have the chance to participate if awareness campaigns start early. All of us can do our part to make that happen – spread the word, print it on your shirts, give away buttons, caps or advertising pens promoting Earth Hour 2009 or just simply blog about it.

YOU can make a difference in your generation for the next one right now!

I need a moment of stillness…

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

To be perfectly at peace amid the hurly-burly of daily life is a secret worth knowing. What is the use of worrying? It never made anybody strong; never helped anybody to do God’s will; never made a way of escape for anyone out of perplexity. Worry spoils lives which would otherwise be useful and beautiful.

Restlessness, anxiety, and care are absolutely forbidden by our Lord, who said: “Take no thought,” that is, no anxious thought, “saying what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewithal shall we be clothed?” He does not mean that we are not to take forethought and that our life is to be without plan or method; but that we are not to worry about these things.

Oh, for grace to be quiet! Oh, to be still and know that Jehovah is God! The Holy One of Israel must defend and deliver His own. We may be sure that every word of His will stand, though the mountains should depart. He deserves to be confided in. Come, my soul, return unto thy rest, and lean thy head upon the bosom of the Lord Jesus.  –Selected
